History 207: Explore myth and reality in the American West through history, film, literature, art, photography, museums and other cultural productions. The goal of the course is to understand how myths of the West reflected and shaped American identities, ideologies, and histories from the early 19th century to today. We'll examine intertwined themes of progress, civilization, region, nation, democracy, race, gender, and violence. No prerequisite required.
